Are you kidding? Have you seen the quality of lower-tier free software? Or perhaps a more mundane example for an electronics forum: the quality of libraries or models from SPICE/EDA vendors. And those are ostensibly paid-for resources! Yeech!

As far as I can work out, it's not a moral objection - homework problems are the sort that everybody runs into, to the point that even academics of heard of them and get their students to solve them as exercises.

So they don't entertain or educate the group, who have mostly been there and solved that.

I hope you are making a more useful contribution than I am ... all I do is edit the newsletter that the local branch of the IEEE puts out three times a year.
