MAX2870 23.5-6000MHz generator from Ebay

You can buy a RF generators made with this MAXIM chip from Ebay. Has someone tried any of them. Are there any bugs. Some time ago there were some posts about ADF4351 (35 MHz to 4400 MHz) from Analog Devices. Ebay has generators made this chip too, but it has bugs. (There is no output with some exact frequencies.)

The bugs are more likely in the code than in the chips. It's non-trivial to program these kinds of synthesizers.

Of course, most ebay vendors are probably copying one anothers code, too.

I have used the ADF5356 recently. The chip is OK; if you need the frequency doubler to 13 GHz, you will also need a filter; the fundamental is barely suppressed.

Documentation is so la-la, the eval board and it's control software help a lot. I had a question about the bleed current in the phase detector and opened a case in ADI engineer zone; 200 people have read it up to now but no one from AD felt the need to clear that up.

It is a second order phase noise improvement and you cannot easily determine the effect, so I used the value from the eval software for this bit field.

The software driver is abt. 1000 lines of C, without comments maybe 600. Cheers, Gerhard
