Yup. I have a need right now for a low-noise voltage reference. The MAX6126 is a nice chip, the separate force/sense outputs make it trivial to boost the current externally, and it uses 0.5 mA of current with a very low dropout voltage. Would be great.
But it's not going in my design. I'm putting in an LT1021 at twice the current and a 7.2 Vin(min) because LTC won't f*** me over. (The ADR44x is also nice and low-dropout, but 3 mA? H'm.. maybe the ADR42x...)
Maxim have some nice boutique parts and an aggressive technical marketing arm. So they get one bite at a lot of novice designers.
