Yep that's getting to piss me off. I thought I was the only noticing this getting worse.

I spend several thousand $ on a home entertainment center and rent a DVD and I'm forced to watch a bunch of Bull S*it. I'm waiting for them to start putting commercials on DVD's and disabling your skip or FF features on your blue ray or DVD player. That will be the final straw for me. I'll just download RIP's off of binaries or P2P or sites.

As an added bonuses living in Canada I get to watch the FBI warning and some other s*it in both official languages.

Thanks, didn't even know that one. However, when I wanted prices for commercial use there was only a submit button. That raises my hackles, I have seen too many CAD sales folks who seem to look at "how much can I milk this company". IOW set price according to depth of pocket.

Fine for me. I will most likely never be able to swtich to Linux anyhow, although I've got it on one PC inside a VM.

Thanks, interesting. It's fairly easy to control those scopes. Upon request they gave me the complete external command set so I can talk to it with any com SW such as a terminal program. Or write my own. You can even get LabView drivers for them and in contrast to some of the, ahem, more established companies they don't milk you every time you need some other SW interface.

That's just what I've been looking for. I've been trying to import the csv files into excel and do an FFT of the waveform. But I just wind up with one long column of numbers. There should be two shouldn't there? One for Horz and one for Vertical.

Could that be run off a Linux live CD? Or do you have to install Linux?

Do you have the battery option on yours?

I'm kicking myself for not getting it when I bought the scope. The battery option would have added another 600 hundred. Would be nice for floating measurments on H-bridges and such.

I haven't used that feature yet. But usually it's just one columns of numbers and you have to use the sample rate for timing, that gives you the horizontal.

No idea, I only tried Linux in order to try gEDA and some other things. But since gEDA wasn't up to snuff for me it just sits idle since months. Except when someone on the gEDA group needed advice on a layout and I could simply load it into PCB Designer under Linux. Also, I do not like the file writing permission structure under Linux so it may never be something that suits me.

True. However, one of those emergency power packs with 18Ah gel cell and inverter is usually around $100 at the club stores. Haven't tried my scope on that yet because ours got old and the gel cell croaked. But if that works you'd get a lot more runtime out of a charge plus you can hook up a car battery.

...in that case, play the DVD into a video capture card, edit the ersult and butn to a DVD in WMV, AVI, MPG or other reasonable format. Then take the original DVD back for a refund.

I've never seen cracked copies of either being used or offered anywhere. But then again I was never looking for that, so maybe it's out there.

Orcad used to have very good quality software with SDT and my impression is that companies have simply stuck with the same company. Mostly because they didn't want to invest too much time in re-doing all the library parts. That can cost >>$10k in manpower.

I still have to check out MicroCad. It has been dissed by one of the posters on the German NG but I want to see for myself. One of my clients is using it and they are quite happy. Has hierachy, and that's the only reason why I might dump Eagle.

That won't work over here. Since we're Dutch we are supposed to do that sort of stuff so they shrink-wrap all DVDs. Ofcourse a borrowed or rented DVD can still be copied. But the copying is too much of a hassle if you can start up a simple program and download a movie from internet. DVD is just too cumbersome to use. My PC won't even play DVDs. Probably something simple but I don't even want to start thinking about what is the cause.

There are lots of places on line to download DVD rips. If you have access to binaries you can find them there too as well as P2P.

I don't download them because it's too much of PITA to convert it to a format that your DVD player can play. My time is worth more to me then the $4.50 rental charge.

If they continue to circumvent features on my DVD player though such as making me watch previews, the FBI warning and other BS I will. Some greedy studio exec is probably already planning to sell commercial spots on releases. Forcing me to watch commercials would be the last straw.

But i like to eat. Not that going on a serious fast for three months would hurt me much.

1. Get a BIG freezer.
2. Buy a bunch of food from roadside farm stands at harvest time.

1. Freeze and enjoy at leisure.

The freezer requires electric. Getting to roadside stands requires motor vehicles and thus fuel. Where do i buy meat on the hoof and where do i find a private butcher? I would make jerky and smoke a lot of it to preserve it instead.

A farm. Where else? Find a butcher in the phone book. Any area that rasies a lot of livestock usually has at least one slaughterhouse/butcher who can kill and dress the animal. My family would by a side of beef at least once a year from a farmer my dad knew. He would let him know we were about ready and when someone else wanted a side, he would call us, then deliver the animal to the slaughterhouse.

There's already too much Jerky on this group, and it's hard to keep it lit. ;-)

I lucked out a couple months ago and bought 25 four ounce bags at a Dollar Tree store for $25. Some of it is peppered, so I cut it up and use it in vegetable soup. It gives it a nice smokey flavor. :)

To be sure, the Servell-Munson cycle. Too bad the thermodynamic efficiency is only about 12-18 %. Plus all that fuel from corporations with abusive business models. Cheaper in the long run to run a diesel engine based system.

And age and physical fitness. I can ride maybe 2 miles on a bicycle. The stands are 10 miles or more. Tricycles and trailers don't change that issue much.
