About three seconds in my head or both. They really can't do that ? Where did they go to school, Yale and Harvard where people don't learn law and the Constitution ?
I'm actually just a semi-able hack. I could start at about $50,000. What time do I start ?

I've been told that my postings here make me unemployable. John's are margi nally sillier, so - by the same logic - he can't be an attractive employer.
John has told us that his average design job takes two weeks from start to finish. You might get bored. He does post bits out of his more exciting pro jects here, but from my point of view he spends a lot of time re-inventing the wheel and congratulating himself on the trail-blazing innovation involv ed.
Recently he got himself into a lather about getting a precise inductance, w hen he could have bought himself a gapped pot core with a central hole, wou nd a coil on the matching coil former to get +/-3% without trimming and bou ght the screw-in adjuster for the central hole to trim the inductor to exac tly the inductance he needed. Several people, including Jim Thompson, told him that this was the way to go, but it was all a bit too not-invented-here for him.

Clearly nonsense, but the fact that cost of computation has been halving every two years probably explains why new graduates can't do the mental arithmetic that we used to have to do all the time.
I can obviously work out that 2mA through 100R is 200mV, and 0.4mW, in my head, but I've got this kind of calculation wrong often enough in past that I check it on my calculator before going public.
If I'm improvising a circuit these days, I do it in LTSpice and can pull out the currents and the power from the simulation.
If I were a new graduate I probably wouldn't clutter up my brain with routines for working out stuff I could more reliably pull out of my computer. It's not that I wouldn't know the stuff, but it wouldn't be at my finger-tips.

Yes. They mostly learned how to type, c and VHDL. They tend to have done one real electrical class project, and forgotten how it works, if they ever knew.
If something's on your resume, you'd thing you'd come prepared to discuss it. No. The standard line is "well, it's been a while since..."
