IC header cables

I've seen what I need: a 16 pin DIP header that plugs into an ordinary IC socket, but one with a ribbon cable coming off it.

But now that I need to buy one, I can't find the right terms to define same, at least to please DigiKey or Mouser. I keep getting wrong things.

Suggestions?

They're DIP IDC connectors

Mouser has several: CWR-130-16-0203 CWR-130-16-0000

151-2P16-E

Digikey likely has some too

I searched Google for "16 pin dip ribbon cable" without the quotes of course. A couple of clicks and found this page.

I found the plugs; I'm hoping to find them with cable attached.

One key word is; Insulation Displacement connector.

The headers are usually sold separately and you press on the ribbon cable you want to use.

Pretty much the standard equipment for connectors to all hard drives preceding SATA.

That type of connector was easy to just nip up on the ribbon cable in a bench vise. An IDC ribbon cable header has pins that you need to protect - just pull all the pins out of an el-cheapo IC socket and use the shell to protect the pins.

The plugs can be fitted to a ribbon cable in about a minute using a vise, or in 3 minutes using pliers, or in about 10 seconds using the reccomended tool

If you want bulk quantities a maker can probably be found.

Pliers aren't the right tool. Unless the halves are kept parallel, they tend to hang up and make bad connections. A Panavise works well, though.

Or he can be onesies from Digikey already made into cables. Quick and easy.
