Hi, I am facing the problem don't know how to choose the footprint in the layour plus. I have drawn the schematic by using capture cis. If i was not mistaken then suppose after i create netlist in capture cis then can use layout plus to draw the layout of my circuit. But i don't know how to choose the correct footprint. I hope there is some one whom can help me in this. Thank you.
if you use allegro,you have to capy pcb library to the directory of shematic.

Er....I am sorry...what you mean by allegro? I am using orcad family release 9.2.

In Layout, go into the library editor. You will have many library files with many different footprints in each file. You select an appropriate footprint for your part. In Capture, you double-click on the part and write in the name of the footprint in the footprint cell. You will soon find that the footprints supplied with Layout are poor quality. It is much better to make your own footprints when you get more proficient with the process.
There are better ways to do this via stuff files, or perhaps CIS has a better way of doing this (my Capture skills are very poor).
After you put the proper information in your schematic, you create a netlist file (MNL) which is imported into Layout. The netlist file has connectivity information and tells Layout which footprint to use.
You need to read the manual on the steps required to create a complete project. Do one of the tutorial examples. Experiment with a simple schematic with 3 parts and see if you can get the Capture design into Layout.

Capture CIS permits you to specify (in any ODBC compliant database) just about anything, but in particular I have set up the relationship between schematic component and layout footprint.
When the netlist is imported into the layout tool (not much of a step with the integrated Orcad flow but a little more when using Allegro) the footprints get picked up via the database link once it's all set up properly.
