When you pass a ribbon cable thru sheet metal, there's a polyethylene trim that's sometimes used to protect the cable from the chassis.
It looks like a "U" channel in cross-section, a mm or two deep. From the side it looks like it has teeth.

Dunno. I use slit wire insulation and glue that on.

Not a bad idea. In desperation I was going to slit some polyethylene tubing, but that'd be hard to make pretty.

Yeah, grommet strip, caterpillar grommet, flex grommet, slit grommet, lots of names but damned few sources. Any lead on sources? I can't find them in Smith or Keystone.

For my proto, hacking away in the shop last night, I slit a length of black polyethylene drip irrigation tubing and placed it in a test slot. It fits well and looks surprisingly good. A heat gun could even form it to tight corners.
Sweet. If I'd deployed it earlier it would've saved future cables
