Emerson VCR Ribbon Cable Solution

Just to add to the knowledge database. The ribbon cables on the Emerson VCR board and deck can be disconnected. The terminals are a plastic housing containing one thin metal contact for each wire of the cable. These contacts arc downwards in the housing, so when the ribbon cable is inserted, the contacts lock the conductor in place. Removal is accomplished by rocking the ribbon cable gently side to side and gently pulling up. This causes the contacts to pull up, so they need to be re-shaped in the housing before reassembly. The ribbon cable wires are pre-tinned inside the sheath, and are quite fragile. Even a little bending causes the individual strands in each wire to start coming apart. So, the ribbon cable needs to be carefully stripped back so new wire can be re-inserted into the terminals. The terminal structure looks like this:

I WIRE I I {__ I { { \ I { { \ { { \---{-CONTACT { \ { { \ { HOUSING
