A bit OT, but how do they make exhaust nipples on VFD displays? Mine look like they are glued to the display with some kind of frit, but frit is usually fired. I doubt it's fired. Is it just a kind of epoxy?

Possible. True glass-to-metal seals must use metal with thermal coefficient of expansion matched to the glass used (or vie-versa depending on POV); the interface appears to be an alloy.
It's glass to glass. It's a bit of a puzzler to me, but the nipple is surrounded by a gray ring of gunk. I thought it was glued there, maybe it's just some kind of reinforcing ring, and the nipple is a typical vacuum tube exhaust tip?
Good question; never looked that closely at a VFD.
