If you have some of those potted units with about the right sized cores, you might try baking them to destroy the potting compound. The cores are quite heat resistant. The biggest risk is that the potting will swell and crack the cores. But I have retrieved a few, this way.An outdoor gas grill works pretty well, while letting the toxic fumes blow away.
Hello Joseph,
Try these guys:

Greetings. I need Qty 5 UU cores the type used in HT generators for CRTs. I have had no luck finding them in catalogs of local distributors. I am in Ireland so a European and preferably UK supplier is what I need.
The size is aproximately 33 mm inside; 55 mm outside giving a diameter of ~12mm for each of the two core "legs".
I don't know the exact ferrite type except they are to make a 2KV step up transformer. I succesfully used cores from old TVs before, but the modern ones are all potted so I can't use them.
I would be very grateful if somebody could point me to a supplier. Regards Joseph Casey.
Hello Joseph,
In Europe you might try Kaschke (Germany):
Just got a postcard from Ireland, reminding me of a wonderful vacation there. Very friendly people.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. A few years ago, when I was still living in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA, there was an Irish soccer team in town, and the team captain, Seamus, it seems, had been hired to coach American kids. I met him at the beer bar of a bowling alley where people went to drink beer and shoot darts. The most notable thing I remember about these Irish guys was the quip, "If you can't shoot darts when you're drunk, you can't shoot darts."
But the point of my little tirade here is that ordinary Irish people didn't impress me as hating British people, or anyone else, for that matter. Seamus, upon some pressing, described to me his impressions of the situation in Northern Ireland, which seems to be divided between those who want to be a colony of England and those who want to be an independent Republic. Probably not coincidentally, there was a very strong correlation along religious lines. I kind of let it go at that point, because I try to avoid relegious controversy, unless, of course, I'm plugging my own, the Church of the Neodruid. ;-)

Being drunk is ancillary. The beer is for ballast. The optimal setup is four pints inside and one in the left hand extended backwards at 45 degrees. BTW never drink and drive. You'll spill it.
"They" say, "Gasoline and alcohol don't mix." Bullshit. They mix just fine - it's just that it tastes _terrible_.

Thanks for suggestions and I will try those suppliers. I should clarify that ferrites in general are easy enough to get. My difficulty is finding UU cores of the type used in HT transformers. Listings of UU cores I have found seem to be rectangular cross section whereas those intended for HT have round section to facilitate the construction of the HT winding. I suspect these there is very limited demand for these items outside China or whereever our TVs are made these days. As a possible alternative approach does anyone know a manufacturer building high voltage equipment? I could beg some! With thanks JC
