Some have gone back to incandescent.
You would think that the FCC would give a shit, though. AM radio is all you can find local news on, and there are large areas where the entire band is useless.

Mid 50s
My dad & mom were both the youngest in very large families. I only know of one surviving aunt, on my dad's side. I haven't heard anything from my mom's side since she died 23 years ago, tommorow.
They lost me when they went to in car cameras, showing the garage, the driver's homes, and only cutting back to show the wrecks. It doesn't matter. From what I've heard NASCAR is losing big sponsors, by the dozens.

So hitting your head with it is out of the question? ;-)

That's not much of a buffer zone. :)

Ok, that's young.
Sorry to hear about your mom's early death.
Yeah, sensationalism, the usual. In the end that costs viewers, then the ad revenue goes down, then pink slips are being handed out, ...
Wait until after Feb-2009. Then the local stations might go down that pink slip route and eventually only some big cable network stations remain :-(

Some days. Some days its not. My 22" HP CRT monitor failed a couple hours ago. It lost focus. it was a flashback to earlier this year when I only had one eye, after the Palsy in my good eye. I can't pick it up, even though I could two years ago. I had to put a smaller monitor on the front edge of my computer table to finish reading my email, and newsgroups.
Colon cancer, in her early 50s. :(
There isn't much to watch right now, other than the local news.

So does the governor of Illinois.

Sorry to hear that. Hope the other eye remains good.
Same with our neighbor, two months ago. And Jim's son who didn't even make it to 35.
That's pretty much all we watch. But after Feb-2009 maybe not so much anymore. Poor multipath performance of ATSC renders it unusable out here when clouds roll in too fast. If they lose much of this area they won't have much of a choice other than personnel cutbacks. I am still hoping that they'll up the power of the DTV channels a lot.

True, but they're the kind of technology where with a decent shop, you could make them yourself. ;-)

You're sounding more like an objectivist than a libertarian at the moment, Rich... or maybe an anarchist? :-)

And even while watching the collapse of the economy, you STILL believe that capitalism could work?
Western European style socialism (whicih isn't all that socialist, unless looked at from an American point of view) isn't the source of our current economic woes, which came from US banks acting as greedy capitalists.

I've made six trips to the eye clinic at the VA hospital so far. They tell me it has healed, but some days I still can't use it. It is usually OK first thing in the morning, but gets worse throughout the day.
My dad had to have surgery for Colon Cancer early this year, so its on both sides of my family.
One website tells me there won't be any TV coverage in my zip code, while another lists over 45 channels of DTV. I think the FCC should have just moved local TV to a couple satellites and passed out free sat receivers. Then they could have taken all the terrestrial channels.

There is a point where some rules make a lot of sense.

Yep, local TV is on digital terrestrial here, and on satellite. Works perfectly. I can also see the other locals on sat, that are not local to me.
Yes, of course, if you can keep the government's tentacles out of it.
Here's an interesting read: Gov't vs The Mob:

I prefer the term "Radical Libertarian" - I do acknowledge that government in general does have a few legitimate functions - notably, libraries and roads.
But these things can and should be taken care of locally. What possible rationalization could there be for Washington DC to take away money from people in Podunk, use the lion's share to enrich their own pig trough, and send back about 10% of it, implying that Uncle Sugardaddy is doing the residents of Podunk some kind of favor? The money taken in Podunk should be spent in Podunk, not in Alaska for bridges to nowhere, or to send armed troops on crusades into sovereign countries, or to send senators on "fact-finding" junkets to Rio?
Oh, and a house of records, and a place to arbitrate contracts can be legitimate functions of govermnent.
And "anarchy" shouldn't be such a boogeyman word - all it means is "nobody holding you at gunpoint forcing you to do stuff you don't want to do and threatening you with bodyly harm if you do things that you _do_ want to do, but the armed thug disapproves of".
Thanks, Rich
Are you claiming that even though you've reached "adulthood" by the calendar, that you _still_ can't function in the real world without "adult" supervision?
I weep for you and your spoiled brat King Baby ilk.
And you piss me off, because you're trying to take down the rest of us down with you.
Thanks, Rich
Yes, and the reason for _that_ is that every newborn baby knows _instinctively_ the difference between right and wrong, and as soon as they can snatch you away from your mother, society starts teaching you the opposite.
Sigh. Rich
