Not exactly comparable but the first gen Honda Insight's regeneration pack was ~100 "D" cell NiMH batteries in series, they didn't cell-balance or equalize s*it. It was still remarkably reliable and some units out there still running off the original pack, probably

** Using one resistor for a series high voltage electro pair is not seen nor a smart idea.

Spiralled resistors ( carbon, cermet or metal film ) have high failure rates due to internal tracking when exposed to continuous high DC voltages. Finding any that can stand 700VDC is a hastle and they are not cheap.

One per cap is the norm, but using more would be better.

I have come across series strings of HV film caps with 8.2Mohm balancing resistors that were large HV specials.

That can result in exceeding the voltage rating on the cap with the lowest leakage.

I suspect you probably never need to put huge, expensive electrolytics in series. You could use high voltage supplies, such as a CFL transformer or a CW multiplier. These are high frequency, so they do not need large electrolytics. A simple high voltge ceramic would suffice. Even in fast pulse applications, you could parallel ceramics to get the needed energy storage.

So you are just trolling, the same as you did claiming crystal oscillators could take hours or days to start. Besides filling up your disk and memory, you do not make crystal oscillators. You stopped doing that in favor of buying them.

So I won't waste any more time on these threads.

It is the opinion of the peanut gallery that it would be nice if you guys could have some kind of capacitor-war to settle this once and for all...mano....a mano. For the good of the industry. Preferably by exploding some huge expensive electrolytics if that's possible.

You could sell tickets and cut some cool promos like:

I see large electros ( eg 2200uF, 250V ) in series or series parallel all the time using only bleeders for safety.

Didn't somebody here invent a similar theoretical dilemma about putting zeners in series? Something about some not drawing enough current and messing up the others?
