I think you need to remember why they exist. It isn't because they are altruistic. The have customers who pay for their advertising services. If they can't show a targeted audience there isn't money to pay people like Clive "Max" Maxfield to write their articles.

Is that the mag that recently dropped their printed edition altogether? I was sad when I read the notice on the last mailing, but it had gotten so small that I never read it anyway. "Back in the day" I used to pour over all the trade magazines to learn anything I could (mostly in the porcelain library). I actually skim the dozen or so emails I get each weekday from all the trade journals. I think the paper magazines used to serve a purpose and the new renditions still do. I just use special email addresses for them and route them accordingly to "view once a day" (maybe) mailboxes.

BTW, if you give out unique email addresses to all the vendors you work with, you might be surprised at how many of them share your email addresses and who with.

I've been using the Agent switcher for some time. Since everyone wants google to index them, they drop their drawers for the googlebot. It certainly works on some pay walls.

They self destructed along with most of the similar publications over 30 years ago. They were mostly an advertising rag for 20 years before that.

I use the przemek+ snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com form: it turns out that +xxx is a valid postfix in email (*), and gmail just ignores it. THis way you can track who gives your address to whom.

(*) Every once in a while websites will refuse to accept + in email; sometimes it's just in-page javascript which can be manually bypassed, other times it's a back-end check which can't be fooled.
