....stop and listen to Take Five again.

Brubeck is to jazz what Tesla is to electricity.

Sorry at the loss. He greatly influenced music. He was like a drummer at the piano. Truly used the piano the percussion instrument it is. His left hand span was INCREDIBLE! Anybody who attempts to play his music learns that very quickly.

Years ago, I met Dave Brubeck at the Paul Masson Winery [The road to this winery is where Bob Pease had his fatal car crash] when he gave a concert as part of a benefit. He invited the concert attendees to join him the following Monday morning at 8am at a nearby school to listen to his group discuss music. I stupidly passed on the invitation because being youthful, I didn't like being lectured to and the meeting time was closer to my bedtime than rising time. Later I found out that so few people accepted his invitation that instead of talking to the people, he invited them to sit in with him and his group and jam for a few hours!!! sigh, missed an opportunity of a lifetime.

I know where it is. In 1968 I worked for Philco-Ford. I used to go over to Paul Masson on Sundays and enjoy the free tasting >:-}

I think we all have blunders like that in our life experience :-( ...Jim Thompson
