connector plating 101

Jan 28, 2016 2 Replies

Can anyone point me to a good site that discusses various finishes on connectors and why one be used over another?

(not ee)

I'm replacing some faston connectors in my car that have corroded and ran into tin, bronze tin, gold ... options.

I'd think gold is best(overkill?) but I'd like to know more.

Thank you.

White bronze - copper-tin-zinc. Various trade names - Albaloy, Miralloy, Optalloy... Proprietary chemicals. Just google it. There's probably a plating house near you or a connector supplier that uses it.

There are electrical greases that'll keep the water out for when you put everything back together.
