Composite video to component?

I'd try it but have a long cable run so want to ask --

can you view composite video on a component connection? I know the green input has the picture "info" -- maybe if I connect the composite to the green input. I'll see "something"?

Don't care about quality or audio -- just want to see the video (it's a video output for a preamp setup with the remote).

Probably can't be done but worth asking.

I can use an rf modulator for the coax input if not.

I am running my TV that way from the composite video of digital converter cable box and get monochrome picture with the yellow composite video cable connected to the Y component input.

It will probably work as sync on green seems to be most common. Still the modulator may be a better deal in the end.
