Compact Falsh format RAM card

Doesn't the system have RAM you can use? Or can you encrypt the data prior to writing it to the CF?

The irony of your request is just too good to pass up. Compact Flash is specifically for non-volatile storage. Usually if volatile is OK, you just use RAM!

But you can't use Compact Flash because it is non-volatile. You want a volatile non-volatile device. ;-) It's like asking for a leaky bucket.

I doubt anybody makes such a thing, but maybe you could have someone design something RAM based. How much memory do you need?

You can build an interface that operates as the Compactflash card but has RAM. The cost for a similar amount of RAM will be rather high though.

I realize that on the surface that it is a nonsensical request but if you knew what the owner of the code wanted to make such a "simple" change you would be looking for a H/W fix also.

The original system uses the CF for all of the right reasons, but a new customer requires volatile non-volatile memory.

Anything over 32MB or so would be plenty.

My idea is to use an FPGA with an IDE core on the computer side and a SDRAM controller on the memory side. This is probably not a trivial undertaking either.
