CMM GPIB question

Hi, i'm having severe problems trying to connect a Mitutoyo MAG-1 CMM controller to CMM software on PC through a Prologix USB-GPIB adapter. So far i have been unale to get any readings off the MAG-1 box, i think its because the Prologix adapter isn't communicating with the MAG-1. Since i have no real background in this type of technology i was wondering if anybody here could help?

I'm not familiar with any of this gear, but I do know you have to set the device ID on the GPIB device. I recall valid device ID's were in the range 1 through 32. If your PC is recognizing the GPIB adapter, I would check to see that both the adapter and the MAG-1 device are set to the same address.

It is also possible the CMM software isn't written to service a USB port. (In other words, is doesn't check the USB bus for potential GPIB adapters...)

In which case, you're probably out of luck.

0 - 31, with Zero being the buss controller. Some scaled down controllers only allowed 0 - 15, like some of the Commodore computers.

AFAIR the Prologix mimics a serial port. IOW it would show up as COM4 or whatever.

Damn. 20+ years not using it rots the memory, but ISTR that the controller was on 7 not 0. Also there was some problem with address 0 and parallel polls.
