Matlab GPIB and 8510B

Hello -

I have recently acquired an HP 8510B Network analyzer (with an 8516A test set, and a 83640A sweep), and would like to use GPIB to connect it to my PC. I also have some motors to move my DUT / receiver around to make S21 measurements at various positions.

The procedure I'd like to automate is:

1) Move to receive position "n"
2) Measure and save S21 from 10G to 20G
3) increment "n"

Right now I can do 1,3 easily in matlab, but I can't communicate with the NA. I have the Instrument Control Toolbox for Matlab, but don't yet have a GPIB card. What GPIB card do you recommend, and more importantly what additional issues do I face. Does the 8510B support the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) language? Do I need any software specific to the 8510B? Any web resources that I should check out?

Thanks very much,

Zach
