No, a crank. Phut-a-phut-a ... *BANG* ... phut-a-vroooom.

Most of the times I just pushed it a bit and hopped in. Or parked it strategically downhill.

Nah, the scrap dealers wanted over $20 for a really tired old one and new ones easily exceeded $100. Back in the early 80's that was a lot of money for a student. My budget was around $300-400 a month and that had to pay rent, electricity, water, food, booze, everything.

Most embarrassing moment: Get out crank, turn, phut-a-phut-a-phut ...

*POOF* ... chingalingaling ... 2nd muffler pot flew off and rolled into the street.

I never needed to use the crank on my Renault Dauphine. Fortunate because I was wary from hearing my father talking of broken thumbs from cranking Model T's ;-)

But I did go several months running it down the parking lot aisles at Motorola, jumping in and popping the clutch... until batteries went on sale at Sears ;-)

Yep, old rule, got to watch that thumb. Especially with that Citroen

2CV. It had two cylinders, one non-grounded coil and no (!) distributor. Meaning it fired twice per cycle and boy what a bang that produced if there was any mixture left that hadn't properly ignited. It was best not to crank it if someone stood behind it or their clothes were ready for the cleaners. [...]

Well, if the guy is incompetent, he shouldn't be out there endangering innocent civilians in the first place.

Thanks, Rich

I did not say he was incompetence, merely old. Whilst what you say may be true, there are no laws in the UK limiting the age above which you are not permitted to drive. Cars are more likely to be lethal weapons than motorbikes. And of course in the US there's nothing to stop the senile owning guns. At least we don't allow that nonsense over here.

It has nothing to do with what "you" don\'t allow, it\'s all about what
your government proscribes, ostensibly in its own interest.

If he's too forgetful to turn off his signals, then he's too forgetful to be allowed to drive.

And about that guns crack, America's not a kingdom. We have rights.

Thanks, Rich

Are you referring to an age limit on driving or gun laws??

Seems that US History 101 might be just right for you since, in the US,
we have the right, as codified in the second amendment to our
Constitution, to keep and bear arms.

Do you have that right?

Of course not.
