guitar case humidifier/dehumidifier.

I was thinking about putting together a couple of containers like this one with dessicant one with a damp sponge and a humidistat to control the fans. The valves are from a respirator.

Probably overkill, and if one system fails, it overhumidifies or overdries. A simple packet or three of silica gel will slow humidity changes, and the wood/glue can handle slow changes OK.

I will probably do a backup over/under interlock.

Actually the problem is long term exposure or low or high humidity. The concern is the wood, not the glue.

My thought was the wood would swell/shrink more rapidly than the glue, if the humidity changed. For REAL long term storage (museum style), of course, fixed-humidity environments are best.

Wood instruments from past centuries have handled seasonal (slow) humidity changes adequately. Summer air conditioning and winter heat are NOT similar to the natural cycle, though.

Without environmental control you becom too familiar with your local luthier, who may not be that good. The humidty sensor is a chip made by GE with voltage output the control circuitry is two voltage comparators and open collector relay drivers.Three resistors and a precision voltage reference for the level sets. It also measures temperature which I intend to use to control a Peltier heater cooler. Very small air conditioner.

I updated the mechanical part of my design. I will probably keep revising it little by little, along with the electronic control system and a power supply.
