Campari.??

A friend gave me a bottle of Campari.

I tried it on the rocks and did not find it very palatable :-(

How is it best mixed? ...Jim Thompson

With equal parts Drano, then poured down the sink.

The Italians drink it with soda water. Personally I don't like such bitter cordials, and ketchup doesn't help.

I think it is much like vermouth, you keep the bottle close to the glass while you pour a gin and thats it

Why drink any of that stuff when there's Ron Zacapa 23 in the world?

I like gin.

I've alway thought rum was horrible, but after trying a zacapa I'm a convert that stuff is damn nice :)

I've since tried a few other rums of similar age and they are all something entirely different from the horrible stuff people mix with cola

Bacardi is only useful for cleaning bird cages. El Dorado (any age) is also excellent. I'm more of a gin-and-tonic guy myself, but the occasional daquiri is nice for a change. (The classical kind, mind you, Rose's lime, good rum, and cracked ice--none of this strawberries-and-blender crap.)

Cheers

If a liquor doesn't taste well, the best option you have is to dumb your taste buds when drinking it.

Can be done with an overwhelming amount of sugar, acidity, salt and ice. In the Campari I wouldn't recommend the salt, but if you add lots of lemon juice (the small green ones, I can't recall the name of them very well), sugar and ice, I think that, after experimenting with the proportions -- after all you seem to have a whole bottle at your disposal

-- you could come up with a nice tasting mixture.

Also consider mixing some stronger stuff in it, like cachaca for instance.

After all that's how the Brazilians make nice caiprinhas out of their cheap rum.

Compari? Great appetizer! Come on. Do olives really taste that good, etiher? The trick is that the 'bitters' aid digestion. Imbibe small amount before a meal, you can eat tons of pasta. Tis true that it tastes better 'cut' with something like Pelegrino.

Used to travel a lot throughout Italy, loved their habit of half and half wine and pelegrino with your meal Else get a bit tittally.

Also the sound of the word, Compari, sounds EXACTLY like the word in Chinese for 'CHEERS' [closest I can get phonetically, com-PIE-ee] Marco Polo brought a LOT back, eh?

My father used to make 'bathtub' gin. he said it was awful! but kicked pretty hard.

Cocktails are indigenous to the US due to prohibition creating so many bad tasting basic liquors, so we learned to mix like crazy. Surprisingly, many Europeans are jealous of our penchant for mixed drinks, and our ability to mix delicious ones. I remember being at a 'cocktail' party outside Rome and our host was very proud of ability to mix drinks, had a full table for guests. Although each drink was mixed per instructions and each drink made using the best ingredients, it still tasted awful! I have no idea why. They would beg us to mix something for them because when we did it it always came out delicious. No explanation, just kept happening.

It would be a crime against humanity to mix Zacapa with anything.

10 Cane is a good mixing rum.

Good with fresh orange juice. Coke is OK, but too much cinnamon; the Safeway generic cola is better.
