We just bought a few Baldor VS1MD41 (VS1MD) micro drives for a larger project. We spent a good week in our spare time in setting one up via the manual and keyboard. This drive is suppose to do vector operation how ever, parameter H40 that selects this option which you have only 0..2 to select from, 2 being the Open Loop vector mode, didn't seem to put the drive in vector control. Not only that, the other options that are viewable for setting parameters that only pertain to vector operations were not accessible, which is normal if you don't have the drive in vector operation.. Today!, we made the big discovery that in H40 option that selects the operation of the drive, there is not 0..2 range of options to select from, but 0..3 which scrolls up on the display. This did the trick in putting the drive into vector mode and worked as it should have.. For a while there, we thought we purchased a bunch of bogus drives with false advertising..
So, to conclude that it was a doc error, we down loaded a PDF of the manual, guess what!, H40 parameter still is in error, it does not show the range of 0..3 but just 0..2
So, we called some one at Baldor today, after several people, we finally found some one that knew something more than the clerk at the desk, they never heard of this problem. I guess I didn't find the correct person..
So we popped out another drive out of the box, installed it, same firmware problem, does not match the manual or any PDF I could find online.. How ever, since I have found the problem. Any one using this model drive from Baldor and wondering why they were having issues, you now know!
This maybe related only to the series we got.
it drives a 1 HP AC motor in vector mode...
Since the one's I conferred with at Baldor wasn't aware of this, I thought I would pass it on..
P.S. The remaining parameters for setting up the drive seem to match and operate as stated.. And I must add, this drive being low priced as it is, seems to be a power house in software control.. Its hard to believe they packed that much in such a small package for the price with Modbus, remote keyboard etc..
I know this area is Electronic Eng how ever, I look at drives like we look at IC's etc... and throw them in the can with out blinking an eye when they fail..
