It doesn't require much grounding in physics to realize that as the juice just went through 238 miles of bird-s*it encrusted aluminum cable to get from the plant to your home, the 6 feet of IEC cable probably isn't going to make a whole lot of difference.

The manufacturers specified heater voltage and current tolerances for reasons. Under-currenting/under-volting can cause cathode poisoning and reduce lifetime (though maybe this only applies to power tubes for the most part.) As the audiophools are probably using $700 virgin NOS Telefunken cryogenically-treated oxygen free tubes it might be something to be concerned about. It's cool though just do whatever. Those tube manufacturers probably didn't know what they were doing...

Audiophoolery seems like the same mentality as being served the nicest cut of filet mignon ever prepared by a top chef, but then being completely unable to enjoy it unless the tableware is diamond encrusted and gold-plated.

New trucks are insane expensive. Things a good full size work truck should have at the minimum, IMO:

I just priced a new 2017 F-150 at Ford's site with these features and an extra or two like fog lights and a bed liner and it's north of 40k. You could get a BMW 4 series grand turismo for around the same price.

What on god's earth would one want a V8 for? 1.5 litres does the job. Mr. Moustache is quite right on that article.

Assuming you need to tow or push big things regularly. If you don't need to tow heavy things (or push enormous quantities of snow out of the way), you probably don't need a full-size work truck!

I'm pretty sure you can't get the current-model F-150 with anything smaller than a 3.5L 6, anyway.

The US imposes a rather large 25% protectionist input tariff on pickups and commercial vans, so very little competition.

That was, perhaps, going to be rolled back slowly under the TPP, but obviously not now.

The new F-150 is a pretty nice vehicle, if you're in the market for a truck. Pretty good gas mileage too, with the 3.5 l ecoboost engine, which is powerful enough IMO.

I rarely see F-150s on the roads here. It's a truck that just makes no sens e. Ford P-100 1.6 is more the sort of pickup round here, I doubt the 3l ver sion is available. Though Ford is not the company of choice for pickups. Ev en trucks & minibuses of a few tonnes don't have V8s in. What are you going to do with one, get somewhere 20 seconds earlier? Towing isn't popular, a bigger vehicle you can put the load onto works so much better. I know that from experience. And you certainly don't need a V8 for towing.

I recall the American automakers went through an "Everything is a Truck" period. Even the PT Cruiser is a truck. Maybe it's different now.

There's a pretty simple way to please American consumers, though. For every increase in engine efficiency and horsepower, you increase the size and weight of the vehicle to match, for the same fuel economy.

It's why the top trim line 2017 Impala has 305 horsepower and 250 ft pounds of torque and weighs nearly 4000 pounds.

Still doesn't sell too good though because it doesn't resemble a box on wheels well enough. I remember when the Subaru Outback used to be a modest station wagon - it's also a two ton beast now.
