About 56kHz IR receivers

How common or uncommon are 56kHz IR receiver modules? I'm asking about their use in consumer products rather than about their availability on the market.

I wanted to use some 56kHz receivers but am having a hard time finding them in India. The Indian branch of RS are by far the most responsive of any Indian company I've ever dealt with and they seem to have made a genuine effort to get the 56kHz modules for me, but can find only 38kHz and 36kHz units. Farnell and Digikey don't even bother answering emails.

It's no good pointing me to sources in the US, the UK and elsewhere. The object of posting my question is to get some idea of how widely they are used compared to the ubiquitous 38kHz types.

There's something fundamentally screwy about a system where the stuff gets made in the far east but is only available to individuals in the West.

They probably come from China, ultimately. Have you looked for sources there? Is it even possible to import from there to India?

Sorry: I can't help you, but at least I can bitch in harmony!

Not worth the hassle for the quantity I need, and probably not for a hundred times that. I'll have to fly to Kolkata which is

500km away by air or a three-day journey by surface, then spend several days clearing it with customs and pay an exhorbitant duty. Oh, well.

That helps, really. I appreciate it.
