Does anyone here know of a web site that can help identify components by their appearance? Such as a set of pictures with identifying information, organized by such things as number of terminals, general shape, stripes or spots, and so on?

For sorting the pictures, it might be easier with some of the online component stores like RS Components or Mouser.

That is a common request on allabout circuits forum - you can attach a picture and usually a few people will jump in with an identification.
