Short-Range Transmitter

Hello all,

I'm searching for a basic transmitter for a robotics project. I intend to use it as a locator beacon, and do not require it to transmit any data, only a pulse of known frequency. The primary necessity is that the transmitter to be as small as possible. The transmitter is for use indoors, and the robots are not large, so the range does not need to be great, as long as it is in excess of 2m.

If anyone knows somewhere I could find a suitable device, please let me know.

Many Thanks, Bowser

How about one of the IR links used for TV remotes?

The transmitter is just a LED. You need to pulse it at 30-50 KHz, depending on which receiver you are using. You can do it with one of the tiny PICs if you don't have a CPU handy.

You can't leave the transmitter singing - the AGC on the receiver will filter it out. I'd try something like 16 pulses then a gap of 16 pulse times. The 16 isn't critical.
