finding integrated circuits?

what is the proper procedure to find integrated circuits that have the number on them erased?

i need the microprosesor on a SRC-193

12 channel dmx dimmerpack but when i google SRC-193, the manufacturer of this device is nowhere to be found?

Try bright diffuse light at a shallow angle, and dab a smear of white spirit or paraffin on the top of the IC, and use a strong magnifier. It doesn't always work, it depends how thoroughly the numbers were ground off.
