Over here, automobile parts shops have illuminated rocker switches intended for 12V systems. They have red or green LEDs and come in sizes from roughly 1/2 to 1 inch wide. It shouldn't be difficult to modify those if you can't find a more suitable type. The ones we see here can be opened easily.

Most of the 12 volt LED illuminated switches will work fine on

9V, most of them push the LED hard at 12 volts because its likely to be used in autos where the voltages drop below 11 volts.
