** The pic that accompanies that dopey story shows 4 x EL34s lit up like Christmas.
Looks very much like the back view of a 100 watt Marshall as seen in the dark. The blue glow is for real and corresponds with small slots in the anodes of the particular EL34s that let high speed electrons through to strike the glass.
Impact speed is about 4.4% of the speed of light.

Marshalls have an unregulated DC supply that is nothing like precise.
