That is where it is wrong. The damages should have been much higher, and been priced to do the same relative financial hit to Microsoft, as would be done to a small business or individual sued for doing the same thing.
Sounds more like a Patent Troll to me.
Remember all those shareware programs in the 1980s that wanted you to enter for-pay codes to unlock the non-crippled version? (TELIX3.20...) That's what Uniloc got to own 10 years later after they got their hands on a clueless Patent Layer. Their victory in the courts looks more like a win from literal legal process than fact.
