Note that, maybe deliberately, there are a lot FEWER ways to post. Almost all ISPs have dropped usenet because there might be some 'naughty' content. The remaining free providers often offer few groups, and will themselves censor groups they have political disagreement with. You can still PAY for access from a dedicated provider - but then you set yourself up for doxxing/retaliation to a greater degree.

So, on the whole, not good.

Dedication to free-speech/expression is hard to find in the modern world. Despite its semi-obscure status usenet/free-exchange is seen as a 'threat' by many.

One POSSIBLE hope ... Elon Musk. He really does seem to "get it" relative to free speech. If prompted, he could very quietly add a usenet feed to his stuff - preferably almost entirely undocumented. The bandwidth would be utterly insignificant.

Another important bit for the future ... offer usenet on multiple PORTS, not just the standard. This would make it harder for ISPs to just cut out the NNTP port entirely. Some ISPs cut out 'insecure' mail ports already, they can easily add more and expect the current pols to encourage that.

I am going to craft a letter and attempt to get it to Musk (though he DOES have a lot on his table). Maybe he'll get it, maybe not, but at least there would be an ATTEMPT. Doing nothing GETS you nothing.

I never did figure out how to do the same thing with tin, which is why I'm back to using trn again. (Figured out how to run it in a container, so it's more easily portable between different Linux systems.)
