CPU temperature in previous plastic box was around 70 C Now 48 C.
Cannot hear the fan.
Perhaps RFI screening is better too in this box.

But what if you need wifi, that's probably damped quite a bit. Looks nice. I have a Pimoroni "Fanshim" which gives about the same result. New firmware also helps a lot. Here is a test of a couple of passive heatsink cases:

A very good point you make there, I am not using WiFi, so did not even consider that when looking for a box. This raspi is recording 6 security cameras, optional one E2500 webcam for inhouse, an USB audio stick for record, has a 4TB Hitachi harddisk connected via an USB hub for storage, a Cynergy USB DVB-S2 satellite tuner an RTL-SDR stick for reception of my outside weather sensor or as spectrum analyzer, or whatever else uses radio. The raspi is well protected, I do not like those things where the PCB is reachable from the outside and pieces of metal could get between it and the case. It all depends of course, I am very happy with this, if you are a WiFi user it is maybe not for you. My main worry with active cooling is dust accumulation, but then again I have a big PC running 24/7 for years, every now and then I hoover it, get he dust fromn the CPU cooler and air inlets,,,,
In my experience, where the system box is mounted has a large bearing on dust accumulation. I've been running an AMD Dual Athlon system 24/7 as my house server for the last 7 years and its always been clean and dustfree inside, but it is mounted high up under a fitted work surface in my computer area: there about 25mm between the top of its case and the underside of the work surface. There's also remarkably little dust on the shelf the system sits on. The front and sides of the shelf are open for easy wiring access and free flow of cooling air.

That's a *huge* heat reducing / performance improving win for the Pi4! Thanks for this article. And it makes me wonder how much of an improvement we'll see for the Pi4 over all when they move to the 5.4 kernel next year.

I've seen this case in the flesh somewhere in the last couple of weeks. Can't recall where but it may have been on display the last time I was at the CPC trade counter. Looked like a nice case but wasn't too interested, still stuck with the 3 for the moment (NetBSD compatibility) so active cooling isn't a must have.
As for RF screening I'd be surprised if it makes too much difference. At RF it would really need to be grounded to have much effect.

That is IMO a misunderstanding I your microwave oven no longer screened if not grounded? The essence of a metal screen around a RF source is that no RF can get out. Same with a lightbulb in a metal box no light can get out, light is also EM radiation, grounded or not :-)
