Variac 2 amp, brush removal ?

N Cook: What brand? Model? It depends who makes it.... if it is an actual "Variac" brand then on "most model numbers" the brush slips out by prying up the spring.... no rivets.... but if it is made by GE, Westinghouse... or one of the oriental imports then your guess is as good as mine.

Variac model V5H

Presumably should be simple push against spring, turn and pull but aluminium corrosion didn't allow any such movement. Matter of hacksawing/ dremmel thin disk cutting a slot in the aluminium arm down to the brush housing to give enough slack.
