Ok, saw this last night and wondered, since it's over 10yrs old, has it gotten worse or is it the same and you finally want to resolve it. I see two options: 1. Purchase some chevron magnets and tack them on the bell of the tube where the problem is. Might help, might not. Or, 2. You have a bad crt. I've pasted a repair log from a major retailer's service center on that series with that problem:

Sony KV27V22 AA-2 CONVERGENCE KV27V22 serial # 8051260 will not converge the bottom red green or blue horizontal lines Unit has over 6 permaloy magnetic on the CRT bell in the area of the bottom of the yoke. This is not a good sign. It is also a rebuilt CRT. We are not going to place more Permaloy strips on this CRT. It needs replacement.

Sony KV27V40 BA4 CONVERGENCE KV27V40 Unit has vertically skewed convergence. Center vertical convergence is Skewed with red skewed counter clockwise by 0.5 inches and blue skewed clockwise by nearly the .05 inched. Green lines are straight. Problem is caused by a defective CRT.

The way you posed the question indicated that you probably don't have much experience with CRT convergence and purity. Even most "TV techs" should be careful to start fiddling with it without getting any documentation available form the manufacturer. Anyone who has the experience to likely improve convergence on part of a CRT without making it worse or ending up with an different problem would know that each one is a little different, and that it is often best to leave it alone if you aren't willing to do the homework first. No easy solutions to this type of problem...

If you have converged so many crts, you should know that the adjustment of corner convergence is usually accomplished by adding magnets to the crt, and that it is very difficult to efect much change without interacting with geometry and purity. You should also know that one should always start with the manufacturer's procedures and verify whether there are any service bulletins related to the matter. So, as was suggested earlier, get the documentation, follow Sony's procedure for alignment, get some magnets, and see what you can get out of it. If you have the experience you should be able to at least get it back to where it is now and not screw it up. With such experience, you know, however, that convergence in one corner is very difficult to correct in a CRT. There are no magic bullets. There are no Sony service bulletins on the matter for this set, so follow the service manual as a guide.
