Replace internal belts when the HP M601 printer picks up multiple sheets of paper?

Question

An HP M601 printer picks up multiple sheets of paper when it processes a print job.

I replaced the rollers with new rollers from a kit. And that solved some of the feed problems. But, there's a lingering multiple sheet problem. The problem occurs in the "throat" of the printer, where the toner cartridge usually goes. (

It seems that the replacement of the three widest belts shown might solve the problem. Unfortunately, those belts are deep within the printer internals. (

Has anyone ever replaced similar belts? Is it even practical to contemplate such a project?

So do you "flick" the leading edge of the wodge of paper before putting  in the tray?

Does "flick" mean the same thing as "fan?" HP tells people not to fan paper. HP's troubleshooting for multiple sheets of paper is shown below.

If the product picks up multiple sheets of paper from the tray, try these solutions.

Remove the stack of paper from the tray and flex it, rotate it 180 degrees, and flip it over. Do not fan the paper. Return the stack of paper to the tray.
Use only paper that meets HP specifications for this product.

Use paper that is not wrinkled, folded, or damaged. If necessary, use paper from a different package.
Make sure the tray is not overfilled. If it is, remove the entire stack of paper from the tray, straighten the stack, and then return some of the paper to the tray.

Make sure the paper guides in the tray are adjusted correctly for the size of paper. Adjust the guides so they are touching the paper stack without bending it.
