Remote sensor extension?

Jan 24, 2008 7 Replies

My new Sony Bravia HDTV has the remote sensor on the *far* right side of the TV. Fine, except the TV is recessed about 2" in a wood cabinet, and the sensor can't "see" a signal from the remote in a chair about

40 degrees to the right removed from dead center.

I can make it work using a mirror, but that's not a very elegant solution. Plus, one must still aim the remote perfectly.

Any ideas? [Other than that, I love the set.]

Infra red is not reflecting off the mirror in normal fashion. It is reflercting off the glass, not the silvering. Just glue a very small piece of white plastic, angled , in front of the receiver

Aim your remote at the wall BEHIND YOU or the ceiling. Aim at a patch of wall that the TV's remote sensor can 'see'. Scattered IR from that patch should be enough to control the TV.

I often 'bounce' my control 'beam' off of the wall or ceiling because the aim is much less critical.

Thanks for the hint, although I doubt I'll be gluing anything to a new TV. The other respondent's suggestion of bouncing the IR signal off the ceiling (mine is off-white) works great!

Thanks! Bouncing it off the ceiling works great! And, in addition, that solution makes it quite easy to see what button I'm pushing on the remote! I am in your debt.

You could use a bit of double sided tape to do the gluing. I find the angle for bouncing off the ceiling is quite critical ,to be effective, maybe because it is not a flat surface.

The walls in my house are sand colored.I can aim my tv remote and my WebTV wireless infrared hand held remote and my WebTV wireless infrared keyboard at the ceiling and at the wall behind my couch and both remotes work.I use a Gyration wireless radio mini keyboard and Gyration wireless radio mouse for my computer. They work walls.

My pleasure! You can 'pay that debt' by helping someone else, sometime. When the opportunity presents itself. :)

Just as I just 'paid a small portion of the debt' I owe those that have helped me over the years. Thank YOU for giving me the opportunity. :)
