Opinions wanted on crt rejuvenation method

About a year ago I observed a tech with a large international electronics company "zap" a crt with 10s of kV at about 500kHz using a Electro-Technic BD-10AS

He claimed this improved older tubes, but I don't remember in what way.



I have been repairing tvs and other things for about 30 years but have never seen or heard of this before. Has anyone any information/experience/thoughts on this? Is it a method worth trying? Would this do anything beyond causing noise in local am radio reception?

Hi Wade,

I think he was using a "CRT brightener" to blast caking off of the CRT's cathode button. They aren't to be used more than once per CRT and usually only improve a dim picture for a few years.
