The lamp in the oscillator went open and I have tried to google for a replacement part somewhere. (or a mod to replace it) The manual gives the HP number as 2140-0007, the manufacturer was GE lamp division with a GE part number of 8A/S6-12V. I have looked on the lamp for any part number and there is none. Any help would be appreciated

As I remember it is a 4 watt 115 volt lamp.

thanks bill I will see if I can find a 115v 4W lamp with a small screw in base and give it a try. the base is like one of those small Christmas bulbs that we used to buy.

THOSE are all over the place. A "standard" night light bulb is 7W, but almost everyone stocks a 4W replacement for "reduced energy consumption".

found some at lowes today. bought the 4 watt and the 7 watt bulbs. the 7 watt bulbs were too low in resistance to keep the oscillator stable. it bounced from a funky looking square wave to a pretty looking sine wave. the
4 watt bulb worked great, the cathode bias was within a few tenths of a volt in the manual, I could set the feedback to 24 volts and it was very stable over the last 24 hrs (burn in). just need to re-calibrate and I'm good to go. your advice is GOLD.
