Hitachi 51UWX20B Power Issue - Assistance Requested

Greetings. Last week I came home to a house of blinking VCRs, microwaves, etc. Long story short, despite being plugged into a surge protector, my hitachi 51uwx20B will not work.

Symptoms: No picture or sound. Remote and power button on unit will turn on unit. Red power LED on front lights up, clicks can be heard inside unit. Within first two seconds or so, I can turn the unit off with the remote, else I need to turn it off with the button on tv. Have unplugged unit for several days while out of town, did not resolve the problem. Have unplugged everything connected to the inputs. Inside are 5 LEDs. 4 Green, 1 Red. When unit turned on, all but D928 (green) light up. Red is on, but I would say it looks as though it is not at full brightness (just a guess, never looked inside when it was working fine). There are three fuses I can see in the vicinity of the power supply board with the LEDs on it, all pass simple continuity test.

With the exception of "call a service tech," does anyone else have any advice, tips, things to check, additional info needed? It was purchased in early, 2003 out of warranty. I am not afraid to poke around in there with some worthy guidance, I have a service manual to assist. It's pretty dusty in there, so I'm going to try clearing that out, but I'm doubtful that will help, as the failure coincided with some electrical "event" in my apartment. Thank you VERY much for any assistance, Matt

PS: a reply to sender will actually get to me (I'm THAT desperate!! :) ), and yes, I do understand techs put food on the table with service calls like mine, but I'm in the middle of planning (and paying) for a wedding, so things are a little tight here as well. not an excuse, just an fyi that I do understand..

Since you have the service manual, Start by testing and troubleshooting the switching power supply. Check all the voltages against what the manuall says and go from there. If the SMPS seems to be working, continue to the horizontal section......

Thanks for the tip, Art. Turned out someone else in the group actually took time to help instead of wasting time to be a smart ass. 'Twas a blown pico fuse (E907 for any future googlers, 3000mA) in my case. $1.00 fix. Unable to locate any other failed components, and everything appears to be working

100%, I will update if anything changes. Thank you so much again to the person that helped me via email (I wont dime you out in public. :) ), to you Jumpster Jiver for the advice, and thank you to everyone who read the original post, and would have helped if you could have. I've seen a lot of people help a lot of others in the past week. Seems like there's a nice core of people in this group.... for the most part. Take care all, Matt
