HELP! My Destination 31" Monitor May Have Died

I just moved and my trusty Gateway Destination 31" monitor that I use with my Media Center is only displaying a thin horizontal line. I have two questions:

Does anyone know if it is worth repairing or how that may even be possible?

Thanks, Tom

Likely just bad solder connections around the vertical IC!

Since you just moved and the problem then occured... Chances are it's worth repairing. There is likely a loose or cracked solder joint in the vertical deflection circuit. Taking the monitor apart, finding the spot to solder and reassemblibg it will probably take ten times longer than actually soldering the connection.

Oh boy. Do you know of any websites that may give me an idea of what the Vertical Deflection Circuit looks like? I don't think this is something CompUSA would take on.

THANKS! Hopefully I don't need to buy a new one!!!!

see the faq:

and locate the section on monitor troubleshooting.

Tip: DONT power up the monitor with that line on for more that a few seconds, or you will burn a line in the CRT phosphors.

Hopefully it will be repairable quite easily, as others have suggested. look for loose wires or cracked solder joints on the cables that go to the deflection yoke (scan coils).

regards, Ben
