DTV Convertor Boxes UNavailable

I just went to the government web site and checked to see if any DTV boxes were available yet, within a 100 mile radius of Chicago. ZERO results. Don't apply for your two coupons yet as they expire after 90 days and you can only get two!!!

My understanding is that the coupons will be shipped around the same time the boxes become available -- end of March, early April.

In February 2009, will it be ''Hurricane Katrina'' again, all over America? You want a case of Heinekens with that? cuhulin

Just received my "coupon" which resembles a credit card. Have the coupon, no boxes in stores yet. But if you wait too long, they may exhaust the supply of coupons and you will have zilch. Now the $64,000 question WHICH box do I buy??? Any differece in brands or models? Anyone SEE a box yet?? Thanks.

Hi

I just stopped at a Best Buy store in Wisconsin. They dont have any. I was told by the guy to check Walmart (which I thought was odd). So I did. None at Walmart either. On the other hand, Walmart has about

7 or 8 DVD recorders or DVDR with VCR that have built in DTV (and analog) tuners, whereas Best Buy only had one, and it was much more costly. From reading the DTV website, the coupons can not be used for these recorders or anything like that.

Leave it to the government to really screw things up. Originally they said it would be January 1, 2008. So, I wrote to them by email and complained. All I got was an automated reply that said mostly nothing. I noticed that on that site, there is a link where it says "locate a store that sells them" (not in those words). It's BLANK. Like I said leave it to the government to really screw things up. Especially when I'm the kind of person who is perfectly satisfied with analog tv and really could care less about HDTV and all that expensive stuff. I live in a very rural area and only get 4 stations decently, One is PBS. I dont have access to cable, and wound not even consider satellite at the price they want. I figure when HDTVs get around $100, I might consider it. For now my 3 year old 25 inch CRT tv is just fine.

I only went to look for the converter boxes because I am curious, and if I could get one cheap enough (when my coupon arrives), I'll get it now rather than wait, and once again, it's mostly because I am curious, and if I get a few more channels, that's all the better.

I keep asking people why I'd even want HDTV, when the only decent thing to watch on the tv is the news / weather and AG report. Well ok, maybe a few football games too, and once and awhile a sitcom. I sure dont need HDTV for that, at least not for the kind of money they want. Most of the stuff they put on the air is complete garbage. Programs like CSI and others like it seem to dominate, and I refuse to watch bloody chopped up bodies, and then there are all the never ending soaps. Bleeeccchhhhh.... And finally we got all these shows like Survivor and American Idol where the object is to make people look like fools. NO THANKS !!!!

OOPS, I almost forgot the State of the Union Address. Would Bush look better in LOW DEFINITION :)
