Capacitor question

Can i safely replace a 470uf 10V cap by a 470uf 25V cap without causing too much draw on the circuit or does the voltage make no difference in needed current? Caps are almost the same size, 10V caps are not available.

It depends on the application, but in most cases you can.

However, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a direct replacement - 10 volt is a stock item with most suppliers.

Hi Bart Within reason, you can sub caps of the same value but higher working voltage. If you're doing this on the output side of a switch mode PS though, make sure that you are subbing with one of equivalent *type* ie 105 deg low ESR
