Can Touchlamps damage or effect speakers?

Hello. I have a small "touch lamp" - you touch it anywhere, it turns on, off, or dim. I know that it emits some minor RFI which can effect nearby radios.

The table is small, so the touchlamp is right next to one of my mini- system speakers. (speaker = 100watts max, "medium" size). The lamp metal is about 4 inches from the main speaker cone magnet.

Is this safe? Can this damage the speaker, or wreak havoc with the speaker magnet? Can it effect the speaker when it's "on"? Or will a touch-lamp's circuitry have no effect on a speaker?

im not sure but to take a good guess i would say not, a speaker isnt really prone to be effected by interference of any kind, and the touch lamp shouldnt be effected by the magnetic feild either

Agreed. Touch lamps are typically an oscillar that reacts to body capacitance. They would have no effect on a speaker.

The magnetic field from the speakers will have no discernible effect on the capacitive pickup from your hand when you touch the lamp to change its status. If the magnet could be demagnetized by the lamp circuit, it could also be demagnetized by almost anything around your house. Speaker magnets are very strong and can only be demagnetized by striking them a severe blow or something even stronger that would wreck then entire speaker. The RFI caused by the lamop citcuit is because any setting except for full off or full on achieves the variable brightness by chopping the AC waveform, thus introducting many harmonics of the 60 HZ power line (assuming you are in the USA or Canada).
