A friend of mine brought me a BA CR400 subwoofer that's blowing fuses. I told him I'd have a look because that sort of failure will usually produce brown or cooked components on a PC board, making it easy to fix.
After cracking the case, there is nothing obviously wrong with any of the components.
The unit has some interesting features where it will automatically turn on and off under certain circumstances, so, even when the power switch is OFF, when it is plugged in the speaker hums a nice 60 Hz sound for a second or two, and the 1 amp slo blow fuse goes.
It's about ten years old. I'm thinking power supply capacitor -- there are two. I'll try BA on Tuesday to see if they have any inputs.
In the interim.. Suggestions?
