Aiwa carrousel out of alignment / sync

My Aiwa NSX-V8000 wouldn't play a CD. I discovered that the carrousel was not placing the CD in the right location. When the carrousel turns and places the CD in position to start spinning I have to give the CD a little nudge to the right at which time it does start to spin and then begins playing. At this time you can see that the carrousel should have rotated about 1 more gear tooth in its travel.



I am assuming that it slipped a tooth (if this is possible), and the problem can be fixed by jumping a tooth forward or backward, which ever the case requires.



Question...Do I need to fear starting a little disassemby job to correct this or is it a pretty simple proceedure if I am careful?



Definately NOT a slipped tooth but rather a dirty sensor under the tray and/or a faulty ribbon flex cable that connects the drawer to the main pcb. electricitym

Both wrong - there's a service bulletin on this. A 1K resistor added to the circuit, across an emitter - base junction on the cd main board as I recall.

This has some more details about the resistor, R406, that needs to be changed.

Thanks! Problem fixed :) Replaced with 680 ohms. It took me lot longer than it should have as R406 and a bunch of other smd components were populated upside down on the board. I kept on assuming those were caps (as they looke d white with no marking). Resistor numbers weren't marked on the silk scree n on solder side either. Service manual came to the rescue .. Looks like th is changes the time constant for active braking. The motor probably behaves differently as time goes by and causes the issue.
