What is your opinion on the following book? It seems a bit oldish, does it reduce its value?

It's pretty basic.
If you are an experienced embedded designer you won't learn much.
If you are new to embedded design you should pick up the basics from it.
To it's credit, it does address a few RTOS chestnuts very nicely (priority inversion etc) and it's cheap.
