Linux on non 32 bits systems?

hello all,
as far as I known, there are only ports of Linux under 32 bits sytems (maybe
also the newer 64 bit ssytems).
Does someone know if it is possible (or does it already exists) to port
Linux on 16 or even 8 bits microcontrollers or microprocessor? What would be
the minimum requirement (memory, processing power etc...)?
Thanks for your help.
