Difference between rthal and adeos and some install issues

Hi All: I am just getting started with real time OS. I tried installing the RTAI rthal nanokernel on linux kernel 2.4.21 but after following all steps (i.e. downloading kernel source 2.4.21, applying the RTAI-rthal

2.4.21 patch, rebuilding the kernel) when I reboot the system and select the new OS from the GRUB menu my system reboots automatically. Has anybody experienced anything similar? Also what is the difference between rthal and adeos? Also can someone kindly suggest some good references on issues in real-time programming? Thanks.

To add to the above, I did enable CONFIG_RTHAL and disable "Set version on all module symbols" during kernel configuration with make xconfig. I just now tried to repeat the procedure with kernel 2.4.22 and the corresponding rthal patch. It exhibits the same boot behavior i.e. it reboots automatically when i try to boot.

Thanks.

I suggest you subscribe to RTAI mailing list. BTW, a common problem is setting SMP. There is some issue with setting (or not) strange APIC as well. Anyway, the mailing list is the best place to ask this kind of question. People there are very fast and helpful.

Regards.
